This guide was aimed at providing tourism guidance to African-Americans, directing travelers to restaurants, hotels, and leisure spots that would serve them between 1936-1967. <a href=\"https:\/\/savingplaces.org\/african-american-cultural-heritage\/updates\/national-trust-speaks-on-african-american-history-and-green-book-on-today-show?utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=general&amp;utm_campaign=aachaf#.XGXVGKB7m1s\">Read more and watch the video on the National Trust&#8217;s site<\/a>, and you can catch the debut of the documentary mentioned in the video on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smithsonianchannel.com\/shows\/the-green-book-guide-to-freedom\/0\/3467847\">February 25 on the Smithsonian Channel<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As mentioned in the video interview, the directories themselves have been digitized and made freely available online at the <a href=\"https:\/\/digitalcollections.nypl.org\/collections\/the-green-book#\/?tab=about&amp;scroll=3\">New York Public Library<\/a>. As you might guess, Winchester has a few entries, both familiar to us and new &#8211; the <a href=\"https:\/\/digitalcollections.nypl.org\/items\/30725b30-892b-0132-c722-58d385a7bbd0\">1947 book<\/a> includes the staples of <a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/EpDSKL\">Ruth&#8217;s Tea Room on Cecil St.<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/vrozNQ\">Hotel Evans on Sharp St<\/a>., but also a tourist home operated by Mrs. Joe Willis on North Loudoun (no address given), and the <a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/qXoT7s\">Dunbar Tea Room and Tourist Home at 21 W. Hart <\/a>(now demolished; two other photos are available from us on Flickr shortly before the building came down).
