Old Stone Warehouse, 145 Baker Street

This stone warehouse is the last of its kind extant in Winchester. Built between 1885 and 1897, the warehouse was used by Baker and Co. Wholesale Grocers to receive and distribute their merchandise from the adjacent railroad line. This lot also once housed the last operating blacksmith shop in Winchester. The property changed hands several times and became dilapidated through disuse (the blacksmith shop, a frame and weatherboard structure, was in such poor condition it was demolished.) Habitat for Humanity undertook the process to renovate the building into office space for the organization in 2000. At that time, PHW contributed funds to the restoration project in exchange for covenants on the building.

The limestone warehouse's restoration was completed in 2007, and now houses the offices for the local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity as well as additional warehouse space.
