45th Annual Meeting Wrap Up

PHW's Annual Meeting on Sunday was a terrific success. The event, held on the rear lawn of the Hexagon House, reviewed fiscal year 2008-2009. PHW welcomed four new members to the Board this year - Karen Clay, Rob Hustick, Mark Lore, and Dan McCoig - as well as welcoming Richard Bell as PHW's next President. Frank Wright remains on the Board in the Past President position. All other officer positions remain the same.

The Annual Meeting is also the time to celebrate the 2009 Preservation Awards. This year's winners are:

Lucille Lozier Award
Debra Johnson and Richard Oram, The Union Bank Building

Carroll H. Henkel Award
Maral Kalbian, for her expertise in historic tax credits

Ben Belchic Award
Warren Hofstra, for his lecture series "Our Community, Our State, Our Nation: American History in the Modern Era"

Elsie Rosenberger Award
Edwin and Betty Orndoff, for their dedicated volunteer service to the Holiday House Tour and other PHW activities for over thirty years

Awards of Merit
Walter Jackson Helm, renovation of 119 South Washington Street
Dan and Lisa McCoig, renovation of 35 West Piccadilly Street
Harry and Debbie Smith, renovation of 106 North Washington Street
Paul and Anna Thomson, renovation of 15 South Braddock Street

PHW also presented a new Lifetime Achievement award to E. E. Bayliss, Jr. Mr. Bayliss was instrumental in the success of PHW's Revolving Fund program. He was an active and involved PHW member throughout the organization's history. Unfortunately, Mr. Bayliss passed away before the Annual Meeting. Shotsie Bayliss accepted the award in his place.

PHW's 45th Annual Meeting

Join PHW at the Hexagon House (530 Amherst Street) on June 28th at 3 p.m. for our 45th Annual Meeting. Richard Bell, PHW's incoming President, will review the past year, conduct the election of board members, and present the 2009 Annual Awards. Afterwards, join us for a reception inside the Hexagon House. The presentation will be held in the rear yard of the Hexagon House, weather permitting. In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved inside.

Remember, only current PHW members may vote in the election - contact the PHW office to check the status of your membership or renew the day of the event!

PHW Annual Award Nomination Form

PHW is once again open to nominations from our members and readers for worthy preservation projects or prominent preservation leaders in Winchester and Frederick County for PHW's Annual Preservation Awards. The award winners will be announced at PHW's Annual Meeting in June.

To be eligible for a 2009 award, the project must be completed by May 22, 2009. Projects that receive nomination forms for 2009 but are not completed by May 22 are held on file for consideration in the 2010 round of awards.

Before and after photos (print or digital) included with your form are highly desirable and may help your nomination. Before and after photos are generally used in a slideshow presentation at the award ceremony.

Award forms may be returned via postal mail to PHW, 530 Amherst St., Winchester, VA 22601, or via e-mail at phwi@verizon.net.
