Education

Education is one of the most varied categories of PHW's services. Throughout the year, PHW sponsors educational programs concerning the history and architecture of Winchester. Events like the Architectural Treasure Hunt and themed tours promote awareness and interest in Winchester’s historic buildings.

The busiest time for our educational activities is during late spring to coincide with National Preservation Month. The nationwide celebration is held each May. For more than 25 years, PHW has made it a tradition to present deserving local projects and community leaders a myriad of awards to recognize the preservation and education efforts of the area.

In addition to the awards, PHW typically hosts fun activities to tie in with National Preservation Month, such as scavenger hunts, tours, links to national preservation activities, or photo campaigns.

Educational Resources

In order to aid homeowners with the maintenance and research of their properties, PHW manages a non-circulating library of technical and historical information. Copies of the National Register Historic District survey forms from 1976 and 2011 are available to researchers. PHW can also provide guidance and assistance for Board of Architectural Review and historic tax credit consultations.
