Mark Your Calendars: Rouss Day 2017

2017 Rous Day PosterCelebrate the birthday of one of Winchester’s most generous benefactors on Friday, February 10, 2017 between noon-2 PM at Rouss City Hall, 15 N. Cameron St. Tim Youmans will begin the event with historical tours of the building beginning at 12:15 PM. This will likely be the last public tour of Rouss City Hall in its current configuration prior to renovations set to start later this year. Mayor Smith will officially greet attendees coming to City Hall between 1 and 2 PM. Chuck Swartz, AIA from Reader & Swartz Architects will be available to answer questions about the proposed major interior renovations to Rouss City Hall, including exhibits showing the proposed floor layouts available for viewing in the Mayor Elizabeth A. Minor Council Chambers. As usual, birthday cupcakes will be available for attendees.

Also, don’t miss the Charley Rouss items on display in the showcase at the entrance to the Handley Archives in the lower level of the Handley Library, 100 W. Piccadilly St., on display through the month of February.

Rouss Day 2016 Schedule

Celebrate the birthday of Charles Broadway Rouss this Thursday, Feb. 11 at Rouss City Hall. The schedule is as follows:

2:00-3:00 pm Birthday Cupcakes with Mayor Minor (Location: Rouss City Hall, main floor)

2:30-3:30 pm Guided Historical Tour of Rouss City Hall (meet in lobby)

There is also a Rouss exhibit set up for the rest of February at the Handley Library Archives.

Celebrate Rouss Day on May 25

Celebrate Charles Broadway Rouss and his contributions to Winchester this Saturday, May 25 with events at the Visitors Center, 1400 S. Pleasant Valley Rd. in Winchester. Kick off the morning from 10:30 a.m. to noon with presentations and tours of Rouss Springs led by Becky Ebert of the Handley Archives and Dr. Woodward Bousquet of Shenandoah University. Following the tour, join us for an ice cream social behind Abram’s Delight and Hollingsworth Mill. The event will conclude with the wreath laying at the Rouss Family Mausoleum at 12:15 p.m. in Mt. Hebron Cemetery, 305 E. Boscawen St.

Rouss Day: February 10 & 11

Happy birthday, Charles Broadway Rouss! Fifty cupcakes will be available to early comers at City Hall on February 10 to start the celebration of one of the greatest philanthropists to the City of Winchester.

Activities continue on February 11 at the Old Hospital, 333 West Cork Street at 11 a.m. for a presentation on Rouss’s contribution to Winchester’s medical community. The PHW cookie brigade will be on hand with light refreshments. Activities conclude with the
wreath laying at the Rouss Monument in Mount Hebron
Cemetery at 1 p.m.

In case of inclement weather, the Saturday activities will be held
on February 18.
